Step 2 – Six questions
01Is the claim a general environmental word without a specific, on-the-spot explanation?
Examples: eco, green, eco-friendly, conscious, kind to the planet, responsible.
02Does the claim rely on carbon offsetting or credits?
Climate neutral, CO2-neutral, net-zero product, carbon-compensated shipping.
03Does the claim cover the whole product or company when it really concerns one part?
A recycled cap making the whole bottle 'recycled', or one factory's energy making the brand 'green'.
04Is the claim carried by a label or badge your company created itself?
Any leaf, globe or shield mark that isn't from a third-party scheme or a public authority.
05Is the thing you're highlighting already required by law, or standard across the category?
'Free from' a substance that is already banned, or a feature every competitor also has.
06Can an outside party verify the claim today – data, method and independent check?
Published methodology, a stated baseline, and third-party verification or certification.
